MATERIALS:
Universal Yarn Vireo โ€“ 1 skein (206 yds)
US 8 / 5 mm 16โ€ circular needle & set of double pointed needles
Large needle to weave ends
Stitch Marker

Stitches Used / Abbreviations:
K โ€“ knit
P โ€“ purl
BO โ€“ Bind Off
CO โ€“ cast on
st(s)- stitch (es)
sm โ€“ slip marker
k2tog - knit 2 together

Skill Level: Beginner

Gauge: 4 inch sq =  18 stitches x 30 rounds / 2x2 ribbing
Be sure to measure and to check your gauge

Finished hat:
Size: stretches to fit 21 โ€“ 23โ€ average adult head
Beanie Length 7.5โ€ Approx / Slouchy Length 14โ€ Approx

CO 88 sts. Join for working in the round, careful not to twist sts. PM indicating beg of round - you will need this later for decreasing 

K2, P2  Ribbing until you reach approx. 10โ€
*** For more slouch add rounds here

Begin shaping and switch to dpns as needed:
Crown Decrease: 

R1: *k2, P2tog* to end / 66 sts

R2: *k2, p1* around

R3: *k2tog, p1 * around / 44 sts

R4: *k1, p1* around

R5:  *k2tog* / 22 sts

R6: *k2tog* / 11 sts

Use needle, weave in tail through the remaining stitches to close up hat peak. Weave in ends using cast on tail to attach button or tag.

FINISHING

Cut approx. 5โ€ tail and using your tapestry needle thread the tail through the remaining live stitches. Pull tight like a drawstring.
Fasten off
Weave in ends
