New Park City Knit Beanie Free Knitting Pattern

A Fabulous One Skein Wonder and beginner friendly knitting pattern featuring Asylum Fibers Chunky Merino yarn!

In partnership with Asylum Fibers and her amazing chunky yarn, we bring you this free classic knit beanie pattern that was featured at the most recent Stitch Up Chicago.

The New Park City Knit Beanie is the sister hat to the Basic AF Beanie, both an ode to the classic beanies we all love to wear.

Supply List:
Asylum Fibers Merino Bulky
US 13 / 9 mm 16” circular needle & set of double pointed needles 9mm
Large needle to weave ends
Stitch Marker
Button or tag of choice

Stitches Used / Abbreviations (US Terms):

co – cast on (using long tail cast on method)
k – knit
p – purl
m1 – make 1 method to add stitch
k2tog – knit two together decrease
p2tog – purl two together decrease
st - stitch

Note:
Gauge:  4 inch sq =  8 stitches x 12 rows (seed stitch)
Be sure to measure and to check your gauge
Finished hat: Brim Circumference 21” / Length 10” Approx brim to peak

PATTERN:
CO 56; Place marker and join to work in the round, being careful not to twist sts.

BRIM:
Round 1:  [k1,p1] to end  
Repeat Round 1 until reaches your desired brim width – approx.. 3 inches shown

BODY:
Set Up Round: kfb, *k1, p1* around   - 1 st increase to 57 sts
Round 1:  [K1, p1] to end, ending in k1.
Round 2:  [P1, k1] to end, ending in p1.

Repeat Rounds 1 & 2 alternately (Seed Stitch), ending with a Round 1- approx. 20 rounds or until you reach desired hat body length – approx. 7 inches from brim shown

Shape Crown
begin crown decrease:
Note: Switch to dpns when there are too few sts to fit on the circular needle.

Round 1: [P1, k1, p1, k1, p2tog, k2tog] to end; end with p1; 43 sts remain.
Round 2: [K1, p1, k2tog, p2tog] to end; end with k1; 29 sts remain.
Round 3: [p1, k1, p2tog, k2tog] to end; end with p1, k1, p2tog, k1; 20 sts remain.
Round 4: [K2tog, p2tog] to end; 10 stitches remain
Round 5: [K2tog] around; 5 sts remain

Using needle, weave in tail through the remaining stitches to close up hat peak.
Weave in ends using cast on tail to attach button or tag.
