Hope Beanie Free Knitting Pattern

Over the last few years, I have had the privilege to work and collaborate with Handspun Hope on many projects directly and through Stitch In Common. One of my favorite projects was when I worked with them to design and release a capsule collection of knit patterns for their hand dyed and hand spun yarns.

The HOPE Beanie is a bonus pattern for that collection that I am excited to bring and offer you as a free pattern.

The Hope Beanie Free Knitting Pattern is a beginner friendly approach to a stylish classic beanie that could not be easier to make!  The HOPE Beanie features Handspun Hope Bulky Merino and is perfect for beginners.

While we offer this pattern free to you, you can support Handspun Hope by purchasing the pattern directly on their website here. By doing this, the money goes directly to help the woman and ministry in Rwanda.

You can also get the wonderful yarn that I love so much. It is a perfectly textured bulky yarn in wonderful hand dyed colors. Grab some here and you will also fall in love - I promise!

The really great thing about the Hope Beanie Free Knitting Pattern is that it is sort of mindless knitting. You can listen you music, go for a walk, watch tv and knit this hat in the round without much attention needed.

And the reason this is great for beginners is that you can easily learn to do a steady decrease for the crown of the Hope Beanie Free Knitting Pattern.

Materials:
2 Skeins / 100 grams / 100 yards - Handspun Hope Bulky Yarn (shown in Eucalyptus Bark)
US 15 / 10 mm 16” circular needle
Set of US 15 / 10 mm double pointed needles
Stitch Marker (for ease but not required)
Tapestry needle to weave ends

Abbreviations:
co – cast on (using long tail cast on method)
k – knit
p - purl
k2tog – knit 2 together decrease
st – stitch
sm – slip marker

Gauge:  4 in. sq = 8 stitches x 14 rows in k1, p1 ribbing

Finished Hat Measurements: 9” brim to peak / Approx. 17” - stretches to 21” circumference at brim / Blocked

A NOTE ABOUT THE BRIM: The brim of the Hope Beanie Free Knitting Pattern will truly stretch. So feel free to try it on as you make it before you move on to the body of the hat see if you have the right fit.

CO 42, Place marker and join to work in the round, being careful not to twist sts.

Round 1: [k1,p1] to end

Repeat Round 1 - 1x1 rib until measures approx. 2” from CO
*** if you would like a wider brim, add rounds here. This may require more yarn.

Once you reach 2”, or desired brim height, begin body:

Round 1: k to end
Rounds 2 – 15: Repeat Round 1
*** if you would like a slouchier hat, add rounds here. This may require more yarn

Begin Decrease for crown - When there are too few sts to fit on the circular needle, switch to dpns.

Decrease Round 1: *K2tog, k2*; rep from * to * around, k last 2 sts, 32 sts remain

Decrease Round 2: *K2tog, k1*; rep from * to * around, k last 2 sts, 22 sts remain

Decrease Round 3: K2tog around, 11 sts remain

Decrease Round 4: K2tog around, k last st, 6 sts remain

Using needle, weave in tail through the remaining sts to close up hat peak and pull through like drawstring.

Finishing

Weave in ends and block.
I found this had responded very well yo wet blocking.
