Get Your Whimsy On - Free Pixie Hat Crochet Pattern

I love the whimsical Pixie Hat because it brings out my whimsy (see what I did there?). Some say it is just for Halloween season but I wear it all season long. They sell well at markets too. It can easily be adjusted for kids size by following the steps at the end of the pattern.

Sometimes I even add a tassel to the peak for fun or pom poms to the bottom of the side ties.

Supply List:
90 yards bulky category 6 fiber -
I use 1 Skein Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick
Crochet Hook Size P/ 15 mm
Large needle to weave ends
Scissors

Stitches Used / Abbreviations:
fdc – foundation double crochet
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
ch – chain loop
sl st – slip stitch

Row 1: fdc 86, fasten off - if you do not know fdc, here is a tutorial

Alternatively if you do not know fdc, loosely ch 87,
Then dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc across. Total 86 dc including ch 2, fasten off

Count 25 stitches from end and place one stitch marker in 25th st. Repeat on the other side.

Row 2: Begin in 26th st from end on Row 1;  ch2 (acts as first dc),  dc 35 across (to where you placed your stitch marker).
Total 36 dc (including ch 2)

Row 3 - 8: Ch 2 (acts as first dc), dc across to end, Turn.
Each row total 36 dc (including ch 2)

Row 9:  Sl st in next 3 stitches from previous row then 1 sc; 1 hdc, 26 dc; 1 hdc, 1 sc, turn – do NOT go to the end ***this is your first slant row to give your hat its peak***

Row 10: sl st in next 3 stitches from previous row then 1 sc; 1 hdc, 16 dc; then 1 hdc, 1 sc,  turn – do NOT go to the end

Row 11: sl st in next 3 stitches from previous row then 1 sc; 1 hdc, 6 dc; 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 sl

Fasten off and cut your yarn leaving a very long tail to weave and attach the sides of the triangle to form your hat.

ASSEMBLY:

Turn your hat inside out and whipstitch the back seam joining the 2 sides of your triangle.

Weave in all ends.
