Lancaster Ruana Free Crochet Pattern

This Lancaster Ruana is super cool because it can be so many things. Truly a versatile piece you will definitely want to make in your favorite colors. You can wear it as a Ruana or you can wear it as a scarf. You can add a front closure and wear it as a poncho or even a cape. This one piece can be whatever you need it to be. I used a super soft fiber but you can use any DK or Light Worsted you like.

Materials
Rosy Green Wool Cheeky Merino Yarn – 350 Yards per skein
Color A Deep Ocean: 2 (2, 3, 3) skeins
Color B Arctic Sea:  1 (1, 2, 2) skein(s)
Color C Isar Pebble:  1 skein ALL SIZES
Crochet Hook Size H – 8 / 5 mm
Tapestry needle to weave ends
Tape Measure

Stitches Used / Abbreviations:
fhdc – foundation half double crochet
ch – chain loop
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
ps – puff stitch
st – stitch

Puff Stitch (PS) :
Wrap yarn over hook; insert hook into ch sp, wrap yarn over hook & pull through leaving 3 loops on hook
Wrap yarn over hook; insert hook into same ch sp, wrap yarn over hook & pull through leaving 5 loops on hook
Wrap yarn over hook and pull through ALL 5 loops to create the “puff” stitch

GAUGE:  14 sts x 11 Rows in hdc = 4” square
STITCHING: Ch 1 at the beginning of rows does not act as a stitch.

TIP: Fasten off old color when switching to a new color. Do not carry unused colors up the side of the work.
