Gentry Spiked Stitch Cowl Free Crochet Pattern

I am so excited to present this free cowl pattern as part of the 2019 Crochet Blog Hop featuring the Spiked Stitch and sponsored by Lion Brand Yarn. Thank you to Lion Brand for supporting this collaboration and providing the yarn for this project. You can make it in as many colors as you like. I chose my faves of course: grey and pink. I also wanted to try out the new Basic Stitch Yarn and it is just as soft and lovely to work up as everyone has been saying it is. I will be getting cozy in this cowl as soon as cold weather arrives.

How to Work The Spike Stitch For This Pattern:
The spike stitch is worked using the same steps as if making a single crochet stitch, but instead of working into the previous row, you reach down with your hook and work it into the stitch 3 rows below the current row. You then draw the yarn up and complete the stitch so that the top of the stitch is still exactly as if this were a normal single crochet stitch.

BEGIN WITH COLOR A:

NOTE: If you do not know the fhdc then you can use this alternative:
Chain 66, Turn
Ch 1, 66 hdc across - then go to Row 2 and follow the pattern

Round 1:
fhdc 66, sl st join together being careful not to twist.
Rounds 2 – 9: ch 1 (does not act as a st); 66 hdc around, sl st to top of first hdc of round.
