PATTERN NOTES:

This hat is made in rows and then “drawn” together with a drawstring effect when the body is complete.

So keep that in mind if things look “off” you will want to keep going!
The body of this hat is worked sideways. Once the body is seamed, the brim is worked in the round along the side of the hat body.

Finished Measurements:

Circumference: 22" (Band approx. 20” (stretches to 23”)
Height:  Brim to Peak approx. 11"

Gauge: 11 sc x 12 rows = 4"
*** gauge is not as important as making this hat to the desired measurements

Base: Fsc 35, turn.

Row 1: Ch 1, 30 x sc in back loop only (leaving 5 chs/stitches unworked), turn.
Note: The last 5 stitches will be skipped every fourth row.

Row 2: Ch 1, 30 x sc in the back loop of each sc to end, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, 35 x sc in the back loop of each stitch to end (including each of the 5 chs/stitches that were previously skipped, turn.

Row 4: Ch 1, 35 x sc in the back loop of each sc to end, turn.

Repeat Rows 1-4, 14 more times until body measures about 20” (or desired circumference).

Fasten off leaving extremely long tail (about 25 inches).

Finishing & Assembly:

Place the body flat so that the ribbed rows are lengthwise. Using tapestry needle, weave lengthy tail (at least 25”) throughout the top of the body along the edge that has the 5 skipped stitches.

Fold top 2 corners together and pull tight (like a drawstring). Using same tail, whip stitch sides of body together all the way down.

Fasten off, weave in end

OPTIONAL BRIM:

Join yarn with sl st to base/ apposite the seam side of body. The brim will be worked in the round.

Rounds 1–5: Ch 1, 61 x (or your total number of rows +1) all way around, sl st to ch 1 to join.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.
