Maker Spotlight: Meet Crochet Artist & Designer Morine of Morine's Shop!
/The internet and Instagram have opened the world for makers to connect from miles and worlds away. You can be scrolling through image after image and all of a sudden be struck by someone’s talent and spirit that just jumps out at you! We all know social media has some downsides for sure. But I think we can all name a few people who have been introduced to us by the internet who have improved our maker practice and our lives in some way.
It is one of my favorite things about hosting this blog - the makers I get to meet through the worldwide community of fiber. Using this blog as a platform to share those connections with my readers is an honor and joy. Thank you so much for being here! Today we bring you more about our guest designer Morine of Morine’s Shop.
1. Tell Us all about YOU? What's your name, where are you from, what's your fiber discipline of choice (do you knit, crochet, spin, dye, ALL OF IT?)
My name is Morine. I’m a lover of all things crafty but my focus is mainly crochet. I do a bit of knitting and sewing as well but I’m not nearly as experienced as I am with crocheting which I have been doing for about 20 years now.
2. Do you fiber for love and hobby or is this your J-O-B? Or a bit of both? Share a bit of your fiber journey with us.
In addition to designing and making crochet pieces to pay the bills, I do it for relaxation as well. I find joy in brainstorming, creating and most of all watching people’s joy in my patterns and makes. My mother taught me how to crochet when I was around 8 years old. I spent years making dishcloths we used to wash utensils. These years really helped in perfecting my stitching and speed. After high school, my sisters encouraged me to work on bigger projects. One thing led to another and before I knew it, I was not only making crochet pieces, but designing and blogging to boot!
3. What is the most cherished thing you ever made for someone else? Who is truly knit/crochet worthy?
The most cherished things I make are the ones I make for donation. There’s just something about intentionally making something for someone in need. Everyone is crochet/knit worthy in my book. What I try to keep in mind, and I think we should all keep in mind as well, is that as much as we would love to share the joy of handmade, it isn’t for everyone and we should respect that.
4. What is the favorite thing you made for yourself?
That is hands down my Retro Nature Blanket! It’s based off of Knit Crate’s 2019 granny square month CAL.
5. What was the inspiration for this design?
This design was inspired by a cushion cover I designed in 2019 with the same name. I really love playing around with geometric shapes and thought the design would make a wonderfully cozy modern blanket as well.

Morine is part of an incredibly important campaign for women and we would love to support her and help get the word out. Yarn for Menstrual Health is a campaign with the goal of normalizing the conversation on menstrual health. They are also raising funds to equip girls in need with reusable sanitary kits. You can imagine the huge impact a donation can make on a girl’s life.
