Brooklynite Scarf Free Intarsia Knitting Pattern

This incredible knit pattern is brought to us from my dear friend Kat Walser. I loved the Emilia’s Shawl she designed and new I wanted to invite her back for another design to share with us. She created a great exploration into Intarsia using one of my favorite Universal Yarn offerings: Bella Cash.

Read the backstory of this wonderful design here.

Enjoy and stay warm friends!

MATERIALS:
6.5mm (US 10 ½) needles, or size needed to obtain gauge
Universal Bella Cash  Yarn: 2 balls per colour. 297m (325 yds) per colour.
Pictured in Sea (C1), Graphite (C2) and Ice (C3).
Stitch Markers
Large eye blunt needle
Scissors
Tape Measure
Blocking Materials (Wet Blocking serves this item best)

BO      bind off
CO      cast on
k           knit
p           purl
sl 1 wyif - Slip the next stitch purlwise, holding yarn in front
sl 1 wyib - Slip the next stitch purlwise, holding yarn in back

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate

GAUGE:

27 sts and 48 rows to 10cm (4") measured over Linen Stitch in size 6.5mm (US 10 ½)  needles before blocking.

LINEN STITCH:
Row 1: (K1, sl 1 wyif) to end
Row 2: (P1, sl 1 wyib) to end

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
Length: 198cm (76 ½”) x  27cm (10 ¾”) before blocking.
Final length is 210cm (83”) after wet blocking.

NOTES:

Due to the nature of linen stitch, differences in gauge will significantly affect the drape of the fabric.
Make sure to size your needles up or down to match gauge as closely as possible.

If this is your first time knitting intarsia, check out this photo tutorial on changing between colours.

For ease of pattern reading and writing, the measurements in inches are not exactly the same as those in centimetres - the metric version is slightly longer. Make sure to stick to either cm or inches while working the piece, don’t switch between the two.

Bind off
Note: this bind off can be tricky to work. If need be, just BO all sts using a standard bind off technique.

Bind off in pattern: K1, *sl 1 wyif, pass the knit stitch on the right needle over the slipped stitch on the right needle, K1, pass the slipped stitch on the right needle over the knit stitch on the right needle; repeat from * until the last stitch (making sure to change colour at the colour change). Slip the stitch on the right needle back onto the left needle, K2tog. Cut the yarn and draw it though the remaining loop to fasten off.

Finishing
Weave in all ends and block to lay flat. Enjoy!
