Stunning Beginner Lace Wrap Free Pattern

I designed this beginner friendly lace shawl for the Stunning String Learn To Knit Series of beginner friendly quick and easy patterns. It is a great first step into lace or a wonderfully meditative pattern for the most experienced knitters.

Supply List:
2 Skeins Stunning String Plump DK Yarn - I made this sample in Mulled Wine
US 10 / 6 mm circular needle 40”
Place markers
Tapestry needle to weave ends
Stitch holder
Fasteners or safety pins

Stitches Used / Abbreviations:
K – knit
P – purl
BO – Bind Off
CO – cast on
st(s)- stitch (es)
k2tog – knit 2together
yo – yarn over
RS – Right Side
WS – wrong side

 

NOTES: 
This pattern is meant to be stitched loosely creating an “open” fabric for drape

Suggested to use a circular needle – but this is stitched flat back & forth, do not join.

GAUGE: 4” sq  =  16 sts  x 16 rows  in stockinette stitch
*** if this is your first time knitting lace – gauge is not important as long as you have a fabric you like ***

CO 70 (this determines your width)

Garter Stitch:
R1 (RS):
k across, Turn.
R2 (WS): k across, Turn.
R3 – 8:  Repeat  R1, 2 

Stockinette
R9 (RS):
k across, Turn.
R10 (WS): p across, Turn.
R11 – 54:
 Repeat  R9, 10 

Lace:

R55 (RS): k across, Turn.

R56 (WS): p across, Turn.

R57 (RS): k1, [k2tog, yo] across to last st, k1, Turn.

R58 (WS): p across, Turn.

R59-190:  Repeat  R57, 58  (or until piece measures 32” from Row 55)

Stockinette
R191 – 236:
 Repeat  R9, 10   

Garter Stitch:
R237 – 244:
 Repeat  R1, 2

Block - this item needs WET Blocking to really let the stitches bloom. See my blocking tips here
